Medical Ships Reaching Isolated Islands
Workshop » MEDICAL MISSION TRAINING AND PREPARATION
As a Christian medical professional, or someone who is training to become one, are you looking for an outreach experience with your friends that will put your skills to work in a location where there is no medical help? Are you looking to merge medical with the gospel? We take medical mission volunteers to isolated islands so remote that the families who live there have no options of help. Your skills and passion will directly affect people living in poverty where families live in some of the most challenging places on earth. You will have the safety and security of living on a YWAM Ship, working in teams, and will return home with experiences few in your profession ever experience.
Come hear Brett Curtis, CEO of YWAM Ships Kona, and a veteran of 36 years speak about serving onboard one of three medical ships they operate in the Pacific Rim. Listen to some of the stories of what life is like onboard and meet some of the crew. Come learn what it is like, how to engage, and how to sign up for a 2-week mission trips of a lifetime.
Brett was born and raised in New Zealand and was introduced to Youth With a Mission in 1983 when YWAM’s first vessel, the M/V Anastasis, visited the nation. Brett and his wife Karen embarked on a journey that has now spanned decades. Brett provided leadership to onboard training programs directing more than twenty training schools before moving on to lead two later vessels, the M/V Good Samaritan and the M/V Caribbean Mercy. In January 2004, Brett and Karen moved to YWAM San Diego/Baja, helping in leadership through a season of growth until June 2011 when they pioneered YWAM Ships Orange County. Brett holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from the University of the Nations. Brett and Karen have five children.
