1. Serving Unreached Remote Rural Areas in Northern India through Tele-Medicine
NIEA’s base hospital, the CMCH, Purnia, Bihar attempts to take health care to rural communities of the state where health indicators are appallingly high, and where health-seeking behaviour is tragically low. CMCH is attempting to connect 100 villages with their base hospital through the training of Community Health and Social workers, on a technological platform. This model of bringing a physician’s advice and opinion into the heart of a rural village directly through real time video and audio offers hope to those considered beyond the ambit of public health or care. The workshop will discuss the context and rationale for such a model and will bring to light some lessons learned as the service expands and is improved upon.
2. God, Theology and Medicine. A Call to Medical Missions in the Work Place
Medical expertise and service offers one of the most significant expressions of human care and service. As Christian practitioners, medical and nursing professionals are called to be “the salt and the light”, with no exception. Our beliefs and priorities, enshrouded in the Great Commission and Great Commandment need to be demonstrated in the work place. This workshop will explore the tension between proclamation and demonstration of the Gospel, counting what needs to be counted and measuring impact. For those who are called to create impact locally, nationally or internationally this workshop will be a wake-up call to serve with great diligence in a post-modern world where the boundaries of humanism and authentic missionary medical services are thinning.
