“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Brett Curtis, Ywam Ships Kona President/CEO

The seminar will show how YWAM Ships, running 26 vessels throughout the world, delivers healthcare development and education to some of the most isolated and remote islands of the world. There is great synergy between bringing in the physical felt need and the often more deeper spiritual need that these people have. We will highlight work being done especially in Papua New Guinea where over 100.000 medical services are delivered each year. The community engagement side resulting in bibles being distributed and man, woman and children of all ages coming to know Christ has also reached into its thousands. There is an unique opportunity lying ahead this year for service on board our YWAM Ships from Europe, the Amazon and around the Pacific. There will be times for questions and answers and an inning.

Dr. Alexander Philip – “God, Theology and Medicine. A Call to Medical Missions in the Work Place”

Medical expertise and service offers one of the most significant expressions of human care and service. As Christian practitioners, medical and nursing professionals are called to be “the salt and the light”, with no exception. Our beliefs and priorities, enshrouded in the Great Commission and Great Commandment need to be demonstrated in the work place. This workshop will explore the tension between proclamation and demonstration of the Gospel, counting what needs to be counted and measuring impact. For those who are called to create impact locally, nationally or internationally this workshop will be a wake-up call to serve with great diligence in a post-modern world where the boundaries of humanism and authentic missionary medical services are thinning.

Dr. Susanna Choi, OB-GYN –“Women and Family in Medicine”

This workshop will address the issues of being a woman and a doctor, involved in world missions and raising a family. The speaker will discuss the challenges that this journey brings. Come hear one woman’s attempt to do it following God’s way. (Proverbs 31)

“From February 26th to March 3rd, Dr. Ruth Yoon led a team of 6 University of Michigan students, nurses, a general practitioner, and an optometrist on a mission trip to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico near the Texas-Mexico border. We flew to Houston, TX and then took the 8-hour Greyhound trip to Laredo, TX. We crossed the border every day to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. We served in both a clinic and a deportee center providing medical assistance and stirring spiritual revival. May God bless Pastor Lorenzo and his family for hosting us at their church. May God bless our mentors, Dr. Ruth Yoon and Pastor Peter Yoon, for their faith, humor, and complete funding for our trip. They made the trip so memorable and fun for us, the GMMA Student Chapter at the University of Michigan. May God bless the children, women, and men of Nuevo Laredo. May He show mercy and guidance for the people being constantly deported every day in hundreds. Many don’t even know Spanish or have family in Mexico, some have also unwillingly lost their children to the foster care system due to their deportation. Ultimately, may He continue to feed the seed planted in our chapter. We believe and give glory to Jehovah Jireh, God Elohim. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” – Isaiah 6:8.”
– Tiuska Alegria, University of Michigan Chapter Mission Coordinator

From March 6th to 11th, Doctors Peter Chung, Sr. and Paul Jo led a team of a nurse, two pharmacists, one dentist, four medical doctors (urology, internal medicine, nephrology, cardiothoracic surgery), and 56 students from the University of Florida and University of Virginia GMMA Chapters on a mission trip to Honduras. They visited three schools, teaching VBS songs and doing crafts in the classrooms to teach the Gospel. Over the span of three days, they met with nearly 400 patients in the clinics, providing medical assistance, pharmaceuticals, dental care, and many prayers! The team had the opportunity to visit the slums where they danced, sang, and prayed for a small church full of little children. Team members also shared the Gospel through VBS songs, skits, and dances in the middle of a food court mall in Honduras! The team also coordinated a CPR class with about 70 dental, medical, and nursing students.

“From March 22nd to March 26th, Dr. David Choi led two different teams to a mission site near Ensenada, Mexico. The first team was with students from University of Washington, Yale, and Union College. The second team was with students from UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and UC Irvine. The trip was overall filled with blessings! The teams got a glimpse of a few ministries there and the bigger of picture of God moving in Mexico. The trip was in general more focused on children ministry rather than medicine, so that was a different, but great experience. In terms of transportation and safety, everything went smoothly! We were praying a lot for spiritual unity among all the different campuses, and God definitely graciously answered that prayer so that’s a huge praise report!”
– Sara Park, University of Washington Chapter Mission Coordinator
