You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

GMMA October 2018 Monthly Newsletter

President’s Greeting

Dear fellow brothers and sisters in Christ,

September is the beginning of a new academic year and the beginning of other cycles.  I pray in humility that God will continue to use GMMA to bring more members to this community, as we strive to live as His messengers in our respective places as professionals and students.  May we live a life that testifies our faith and shines as His light by rising above the worldly challenges and pressing forward to victory.

This month, I want to focus on a few aspects of the mission of GMMA that will help us to share about this ministry with fellow students and professionals all over the world. Please utilize the website ( for more information and updates.

Our Mission is: To bring and promote Christ-centered missional life to the body of healthcare professionals and its partners.  We accomplish this through our core values – HEAL: Help local churches to fulfill medical missions work.  Empower the next generation of healthcare professionals to do medical missions. Awaken the mission-minded healthcare professionals to fulfill the great commission. Link healthcare professionals with global organizations and mobilize to the mission sites.

I am thankful beyond words as God is allowing the core values to be put into action, resulting in our mission to be amplified throughout our growing GMMA family. I wish all of you can travel to the different GMMA events to physically witness this actualization, and not just through my words.  Though I try my best to attend as many events as possible, I am not able to keep up with how Christ is working everywhere.  Teams training to go on missions, campus officers gathering in retreats to pray and prepare for the academic year, mentors praying together through teleconferences, admin staff sending out brochures and PR materials to campus chapters all over the US, board members praying and planning together to lead more responsibly, and so many more in action to serve the calling He has given us. It is a beautiful movement of everyone serving together.

This past weekend, I attended a dedication service of one of GMMA’s many mission partners. It was the opening of a free community dental clinic by SmileUntoHim ministry lead by Dr. Sue Suh, who also serves as our board member. At the dedication service, there were people from many different walks of life all worshiping and praising together. Tears were shared as Dr. Suh testified to God’s faithfulness in providing co-laborers to finish the clinic. She repeated, “It’s God, He did it!” We responded with a “yes!” as it was the undeniable truth. An image of the trinity smiling upon the result and what is about to take place in this free clinic rested in my mind as I worshiped. Hearing how every patient walking through the clinic door will receive prayer lead to a loud “amen!” by everyone present. Clinical healing as a bridge to share the love of Christ!

Let us continue to live for Him through all that we are, individually and collectively, for His glory. Missional life enriches our lives and the lives of those around us. Please join me daily in praying for GMMA to thrive in living out the faith to add more to His eternal kingdom.

On my knees in prayer for this family,
Peter Chung M.D.

Professional Activity Highlights

Thank the Lord for the GMMA professionals who live out the missional life in diverse ways.  Below are just a few highlights.

Supporting mission teams: Professionals and post-grad members visit the airport to pray with the Cambodia team and to cheer them on for a great trip.

Speaking at Churches: Dr. Chung and Dr. David Roh spoke at several churches sharing on God’s calling on their lives and the significant call for GMMA in impacting the future. While Dr. Roh was visiting to speak at Sa Rang Church in California, he made special time for GMMA students and young professionals to share his testimony and pray together.  Dr. Chung challenged the members of the church to rise up and join in supporting and encouraging the next generation with prayer and resources. He reminded that time is short and that everyone will stand before Christ answering on what we did on earth.

Attending Mission Trips:  Many professionals attended mission trips with the students and served in their respective professional specialties.  We are grateful for the shadowing opportunities for the students through the cooperative efforts of the professionals.  This is how we become a family for life;  serving the Lord and serving each other through the portal of medical missions.

Interceeding Together: A great time of prayer was shared on August 26th. Praise lead by Dr. Oh and Dr. Shin and word of wisdom shared by Dr. Kim lead to a reading of chapter 1 of John I together in unison before calling out to the Lord for a greater presence of Him and power of His love to strengthen the GMMA family. The prayer time also included a time of praying for each other on special prayer requests like physical healing, job transitions, and test preparation.  Prayer is our connecting line to God and to each other and experiencing His amazing miracles.  We prayed for the flooded water of Cambodia to drain so our Cambodia team can serve as they prepared.  Upon their arrival, the water receded and did not affect the ministry. Praise the Lord for answered prayers.  We rejoiced together!

Building and Serving Communities: Dr. Suh DDS (SmileuntoHim founder and GMMA board member)  finished constructing a free dental clinic in Riverside, CA to serve the less fortunate members of this community.  We join in supporting her prayer and effort of serving the community. Dr. Suh testified that it was all God provided the heart to reach out and the strength to work together to complete the project.  She shared the tough moments and how God somehow always provided at just the right amazing time to reassure her that He is in the midst of His children.

Serving the Officers of GMMA:  Board members and mentors served at the new officers’ retreats that took place in Texas (Texas and Colorado Chapters) and New York (East Coast Chapters). Professionals and postgrads shared faith, encouragement, and wisdom to the new officers who will be the leaders for campus chapters. We press forward for another academic year to be His light on campuses and work places.

All Glory to Our Faithful Father for the way He moves our hearts to experience Him!

Camus Chapters

The campus chapters are starting back up with the new school year.  New Officers have completed their training and are busy preparing for GMMA welcome week club events at their respective campuses.  We pray and support them as they are helping other pre-health students to experience medical missions and what it means to live a Christ-centered missional life. You can explore all of the GMMA chapters, including the leadership, meeting times, instagram, contact info and more, on our website here.

If you know any healthcare professionals who would gladly serve as mentors for these chapters, please email us at
